We've been making progress fixing these issues for people in the last day.
For those of you experiencing any of these problems:
**** Crashing before the game loads
**** Hanging/Stuck on Microsoft Visual C++ redist installer
**** Nothing happens when you press Play/double click on the Cricket Captain 2016 shortcut
This is NOT for crash issues when reaching the first game screen (where the game loads, but crashes quickly). I'll put a separate thread up for that.
I'm going to order these solutions by importance, so start at 1 and work your way down. The first solution regarding Windows Update is going to be the fix for most people, and should also be noted that this will affect any game that is built with Visual Studio 2015.
1) WINDOWS UPDATE
Please ensure that Windows Update is up to date on your machine.
This Windows update number below is CRITICAL to make Cricket Captain 2016 work:
KB2999226
You can check whether you have KB2999226 installed by doing this:
- Press Windows key and R at the same time on your keyboard
- Type "wuapp" (without the quotes) in the box and press enter
- Select View update history
- You should see the option "installed updates", select this
- In the top right of the installed updates list you'll see a search box starting "Search installed updates"
- Copy and paste this: "KB2999226" (without quotes) in to the search box
If nothing appears on the installed update list, then it's not installed on your machine.
We strongly advise installing KB2999226 on your machine through Windows Update, but if you're having problems with Windows Update, then the individual packages for Windows Update KB2999226 can be installed from this page:
To determine which package you need:
Press Windows key and R at the same time on your keyboard
Type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the box and press enter
In the system tab look at your Operating system details.
If it says 64-bit, you'll need the relevant x64 version.
If it says 32-bit OR doesn't say 32 or 64-bit, then you'll need the x86 version.
Simply download and install the package to your machine.
After installing this update on to your machine, you should only need to restart your machine before you can run the game again to make it work.
Any problems with running the game and ensuring that you have the update installed then please do this:
Find Cricket Captain 2016 in your Steam Library, right click on it and select Properties.
In Local Files select Delete Local Content.
Then reinstall the game again.
2) WINDOWS 7 USERS ONLY
Windows 7 users must be running Service Pack 1 to play Cricket Captain 2016.
If you're unsure whether you're running Service Pack 1:
Press Windows key and R at the same time on your keyboard
Type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the box and press enter
Go to the System tab, if your build number is 7600 then you need to install Service Pack 1.
Note: It might also say that you're running Service Pack 1 within the text itself.
All information is available on this page to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ice-pack-1-sp1
3) PERMISSIONS
I strongly recommend your Windows install is completely up to date before doing this.
If the above two steps have been completed (or not relevant in case of #2) then you need to do this:
Firstly determine whether your machine is 32 or 64 bit.
Find Cricket Captain 2016 in your Steam Library, right click on it and select properties.
Go to Local Files and then Browse Local Files.
In the game directory please select CommonRedist, then vcredist, then 2015.
32 bit users should only install the x86.exe
64 bit users should install both the x86 and x64.exe's.
When running these installers, if you get the error:
"2203"
or
"0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation"
Then you'll need to make some changes to your SYSTEM permissions for these two locations:
C:\Windows\Installer
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp
1. Right click folder - Properties - Security tab
2. In 'Group or usernames', you should have 1. Your account name and 2. SYSTEM
3. If SYSTEM is missing, click 'Edit...', then 'Add...'
4. In 'Enter object names to select', key in 'SYSTEM' then click OK
5. Click on 'SYSTEM' and make sure 'Full Control' is checked in the permissions window
If you can't see these folders, you may need to enable hidden folders:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/
After those permissions are set, restart your machine, then try and install the relevant vc_redist installers mentioned above.
Note:
I think this is a pretty rare case, but worth including here.
-----
As mentioned in the above links, please be aware that:
x86 = 32 bit
x64 = 64 bit
We're happy to help, so if you're struggling to find what you need, then please let us know.
Thanks for your patience on this and to everyone who's helped me put the pieces together.
