Some great additions to the squad. Good to see your loyalties don't get in the way of who you bring in as well

Think you'll be up there next season. All the best!

Safe to say I was pleased with that score!

Had to get a few Hampshire players in somewhere!

        • 5th April 2022: Derbyshire vs Glamorgan
          Glamorgan elected to bat.

Derbyshire are unchanged from the draw against the students, after scoring a blistering 981-9d, before bowling tightly and taking sixteen wickets in one day.

XI: Luis Reece, Luke Wells, Wayne Madsen*, Sam Northeast, Steven Mullaney, Ed Pollock, Steven Davies+, Lewis Gregory, Logan van Beek, Kyle Abbott, Pat Brown

          Glamorgan 1st: 173 (63 overs - Brodrick 48; Abbott 3-27, van Beek 3-56)
          Derbyshire 1st: 490-8d (159 overs - Reece 179, Northeast 70, Wells 49; Davey 3-125)
          Glamorgan 2nd: 358 (96.1 overs - Khaleel 192, Brown 67; Brown 6-90)
          Derbyshire 2nd: 43-3 (16.3 overs - Smith 2-14)

          Derbyshire won by 7 wickets
          Points:
          Derbyshire 21, Glamorgan 0
          MOTM: Luis Reece

A pleasing victory to start the season. We bowled magnificently first up after losing the toss, dismissing them for a meagre 173. We then put them to the sword, with Reece hitting an outstanding century, well supported by Northeast. With the ball, we were then less effective, with their Indian overseas Khaleel smashing a stunning 192 off only 201 balls, with 29 fours. However, Brown took six of the ten wickets, including wrapping up the tail, to leave us a low target. But the rain was due soon, and so we made an attempt to score as quickly as possible. With just seven runs needed, the rain started to fall and the players left the field; however, the groundstaff did a terrific job and allowed the batsmen to return and secure the victory.

          • 11th April 2022: Derbyshire vs Warwickshire
            Warwickshire elected to bat.
We continue to have no luck with the toss as Warwickshire, who beat Hampshire on the opening day, elect to bat first, against an unchanged Derbyshire side.

XI: Luis Reece, Luke Wells, Wayne Madsen*, Sam Northeast, Steven Mullaney, Ed Pollock, Steven Davies+, Lewis Gregory, Logan van Beek, Kyle Abbott, Pat Brown

            Warwickshire 1st: 307 (88.3 overs - Heath 61, Hose 58, Sibley 53; van Beek 4-99)
            Derbyshire 1st: 451 (127.2 overs - Reece 149*, Mullaney 126, Madsen 93; Stone 3-107)
            Warwickshire 2nd: 151 (59 overs - Hain 43; van Beek 3-47, Brown 2-30)
            Derbyshire 2nd: 8-0 (2.1 overs)

            Derbyshire won by 10 wickets
            Points:
            Derbyshire 24, Warwickshire 4
            MOTM: Luis Reece

It's still early days but we look like the team to beat so far! We bowled okay in the first innings, with LvB particularly impressing, before Reece continued his stunning start to the season with another century. Mullaney and Madsen were also outstanding, with the former hitting his century off 107 balls. We were then excellent with the ball: every bowler took at least two wickets as we rolled them over for 151, leaving us an easy chase of just eight, which was completed in the third over. For the first time in the save, we take maximum points from a Championship game, leaving us top of Division Two!

            • You have assembled a cracking squad Mate, that seam attack looks awesome.
Proudly supporting Nottingham Forest and Nottinghamshire CCC.

Cheers, the squad already looks so much stronger. Looking forward to hopefully finally gaining promotion!

7th wicket: 93, Chris Bannister & Cameron Delport (career record)

                  Summary:
Despite our strengthening of the squad, we again performed poorly in a limited overs competition. We could never score enough runs, and rarely restrict the runs scored by the opposition. Pollock was our standout performer at the top of the order, with Davies also impressive. However, I'm not convinced by either of them opening as they often seem to fail, despite having a relatively high run count. Gregory was excellent throughout with the ball, as was Brown until the last couple of games, where he struggled with his economy rate. Briggs was quietly useful, and Abbott also chipped in; however, LvB struggled, taking only five wickets in the six games he played, at an average of above 50. I'm not too concerned though - throughout his time at Derbyshire, his One Day stats have been much less impressive than his FC and T20 stats, so I don't believe this to currently be a major issue. We return for a block of Championship action, in which we'll be looking to keep our place at the top of the table after two impressive opening performances.

I was happy with all the signings but particularly Sam - he’s in great form in real life so hoping he can replicate that in-game!

                      • 14th May 2022: Worcestershire vs Derbyshire
                        Worcestershire elected to bat.

Yet another toss lost and bottom-placed Worcestershire elected to bat first against first-placed Derbyshire. We're unchanged from our previous match.

XI: Luis Reece, Luke Wells, Wayne Madsen*, Sam Northeast, Steven Mullaney, Ed Pollock, Steven Davies+, Lewis Gregory, Logan van Beek, Kyle Abbott, Pat Brown

                        Worcestershire 1st: 224 (69.5 overs - Jones 44; Abbott 3-43, van Beek 3-58)
                        Derbyshire 1st: 231 (77.3 overs - Pollock 48; Leach 4-62)
                        Worcestershire 2nd: 439 (105.2 overs - J Malan 180, Jones 117; Gregory 5-80, van Beek 3-72)
                        Derbyshire 2nd: 129 (53.1 overs - Madsen 35; Leach 5-36)

                        Worcestershire won by 303 runs
                        Points:
                        Worcestershire 20, Derbyshire 4
                        MOTM: Janneman Malan

An embarrassingly poor performance. After bowling well in the first innings, I felt our batting performance was unacceptable, though we weren't helped by Wells' injury. It went from bad to worse as Worcestershire racked up a huge 439, before we put in a pathetic display in reply, dismissed for just 129 - an absolute thrashing which will harm confidence as we drop out of the promotion places, though we only trail Hampshire in second by two points.

                          Hampshire elected to bat.

Once again, we lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. Godleman replaces the injured Wells, and Brown also misses out - Briggs makes his Derbyshire FC debut.
