    WI 1st Innings

    WI 2nd Innings
    116/1 C Gayle 52no
    J Franklin 1-39

    WI win by 9 wickets

A terrible 1st innings batting performance has cost us the chance to win our 2nd series of the season. We have let ourselves down in this game as we are better than the Windies but on the day they were better. We now have one T20 and 5 ODIs. We should win the ODIs as we are a quality one-day outfit ranked 2nd in the world. Our squad will be named after the T20.

    • T20 vs West Indies

      WI Innings
      113/5 R Sarwan 42no, R Hinds 39no
      J Oram 3-25, T Southee 1-25

      NZ Innings
      114/4(17.1) R Taylor 34no, J Ryder 27no
      N Millar 2-28

      NZ win by 6 wickets

T20s seem rather pointless in this game as their are no rankings for them and we only play 1 or 2 a year. It is an opportunity to try some new tactics and players. We won this one by bowling very accurately before some good batting between Ryder and Taylor got us home.

            241/9 S Chanderpaul 71, D Smith 40
            T Southee 3-51, D Vettori 2-28

            NZ Innings
            183/9(50) P Fulton 43, I Robertson 30
            A Richardson 4-40

            WI win by 58 runs

We were unlucky as they won the toss and batted in the best conditions whereas we had to bat under very cloudy skies and we failed to cope. Richardson bowled very well for them whereas our bowling was generally inaccurate. I will keep the same team for the 2nd game but another loss could force me into making changes.

              J Ryder 3-27, D Vettori 2-42

West Indies win by 4 wickets

A very similar situation to the first game with the West Indies winning the toss and bowling under cloudy skies. We once again struggled to adapt a put up a measly total. The Windies came out all guns blazing and got well ahead of the required run-rate. Regular wickets kept me interested but a score was to little to defend. We now have 3 must win games if we want to win this series.

              • We have made 2 changes for the 3rd ODI with Hiini and Mills replacing Bond and Franklin. Hiini will shore up our batting which has struggled over the past 2 weeks.

                  NZ win by 1 wicket

We were very ordinary here and we still haven't hit top form. We did however seem to have it under control until a mid-order collapse nearly killed us off. At 150/3 we were cruising but we then went on to lose 5 wickets for 35 runs. A 30 run partnership between Mills and Vettori got us close before another wicket made it tight again. Southee came in and hit a 4 and a 2 to win the game!

West Indies win by 32 runs

Once again our batsman have not stood up when required and have let us down during the whole series. Fulton and Oram have done well but they are the exception rather than the rule. How, Taylor and McCullum have all been disappointing. The worst performer however has been Ryder. After being our best ODI batsman last season, he has only scored 28 runs@ 7.00 over 4 matches. That is simply not good enough for a player of his potential. There will be changes for the 5th ODI with a major shakeup likely.

The Windies continued on their winning roll with another comfortable win over us. They dominated us with bat and ball and we put in another disapointing effort. We have been, surprisingly, outplayed in 4 games, with the other game very close. Our batting has been a huge disappoinment and we have struggled to put competitive totals on the board, with our highest total 221/9. We need a rethink about our batting lineup with our next series against Zimbabwe. The West Indies though have won this series, 4-1.

                        • Zimbabwe have arrived in town for a short series, comprising of 2 tests and 3 ODIs. They have had little succes of late and are 9th in Tests and 10th in ODIs. We have also been struggling a little of late and will still have to be convincing in our performances. Our 12 man squad for the 1st Test is:

                          P Fulton(c)
                          N Horsley

NZ win by an innings and 192 runs

A capitulation by Zimbabwe has left them re-faced and embarrassed. Having performed to a satisfactory level, they imploded in their 2nd innings in what were extremely bowler friendly conditions. I only used 2 bowlers, which is more than the amount of their batsman who got into double figures. First impression is their bowling is allright but their batting, on what i have seen at least, is terrible an is a disgrace to international cricket.
