He took seven wickets in 26 tests, and didn't even average one and a half wickets per first-class game. That isn't the record of a "bowling all-rounder" by any measure.

      Cricinfo says this:-

      • I was judging more by his FC record, which is slightly odd, but the average suggests that perhaps he started bowling more later in his career? The test record wasn't great in either department.

        • His stats suggest he was simply an all-rounder, data collector must've made a mistake, and the bowling stats are quite misleading especially in test.

          • Hey admin. Couple more errors in the pak database for you to ponder over:

            1) Not that it really matters as i doubt anybody will ever play him again whether its reality or in the game but Mohammad Sami is down as a RM when he should be RF, even though hes a poor seamer he consistently hits 90mph in FC cricket, this was correct in the last database but somehow its been changed.
            2) (major error) Anwar Ali isnt in the game (he might be down as a batsman like sohail khan is but seeing as theres more than 50 Ali's in the pakistan database i might have missed him) Im not his biggest fan but theres no doubt he should be in there as a RFM bowler, here is his cricinfo profile for your reference:
Read about Anwar Ali cricket player from Pakistan profile, stats, rankings, records, videos, photos at ESPNcricinfo

Quick question if i may mods. Is a new patch even going to be released with the new changes? Is there much point considering the game has been out for a bit of time now and i dont think anyone will be willing to start new games all over again just to see the new changes ( i certainly wont be, although its a big shame about the sohail khan error as i was looking forward to playing him in my pakistan side as an extremely promising fast bowler, not a hopless middle order batsmen). When will these be fixed and released?

            • *that* Anwar Ali is in the game, and down as a batsman not a bowler

              • India

I have the CD version - and it is upto date (9.13 I think)

However these are the following issues:

Dhoni: He is really poor in both forms of cricket and is a very slow batsman. This is completely rubbish - Dhoni is one of the best batsman in world cricket today with an ability to bat both aggressively or defensively depending upon the situation of the match and the number he bats at. Traditionally the salary of a player points towards the general talent or skill of the player (eg good player better salary). Dhoni only has a salary of 37,000 in this game. This also is rubbish. He is one of the most highly paid and in-demand cricketers in world cricket today. Also why is he not the default captain in the indian team??? Kindly make all these changes for MS Dhoni.

Yuvraj Singh: He is a very aggressive batsman and also one of the most dangerous in terms of world cricket today. Granted he is mainly a ODI and T20 specialist. In ICC 09 he is unable to play aggressively!

Suresh Raina: He is one of the most talented young batsmen in world cricket today- also very aggressive. Yet in ICC 09 very low salary and not much in terms of quick scoring either! need to change this.

Yes fair enough, I think the Mods are aware of these inconsistencies.
Maybe you should take as a challenge to train these guys (especially Raina) to meet the talented levels you feel they should be at? I'm trying it at the moment with a few players in my save, slowly starting to see results.

                  • yeah man, its just that with someone like Dhoni - its depressing and somewhat agitating to see him so useless. I thought the admin would have addressed this issue in 2007 or 2008 version - because in both he was just as bad. But the problem continues. Same with Yuvraj...

Definitely its fun to work on a players technique - that is a lovely feature - but more enjoyable when you know its "real". rather than your using it just so you could catch up to the status quo.

                    • Dhoni never gets picked by India

                      • Aren't I right in thinking Dhoni has been in poor(ish) form over the last couple of years? I thought his batting had waned a little.

                        Comment

                        • I knew this would come up. Thats why I have done some cricinfo statsguru research.

                          For Test Matches

Batting average of Dhoni in Tests Post April 2007 - April 2009: 43.31
Batting average of Dhoni in Tests (All) : 37.73
Batting average of Dhoni in Tests prior to April 2007 : 30.69

                          Links:

So in test matches - he has definitely improved. Correctumondo?

                          Now we look at ODI's:

In ODI's the reading is even better!

Batting average in ODIs prior to July 2007 : 46.97
                          Batting average in ODIs from July 2007 - July 2009 : 53.92
Batting average in ODIs (career) : 50.18

So he has improved in both ODIs and Test matches in the last 2 years. Even though his batting style has changed. Do you want me to quote on S/R as well? Cos in ODIs, his career S/R is 90 - and it is 85 post 2007. (granted it has fallen but heck that is still an awesome S/R!)

So admin, I really feel this does need to be changed. If anything, change his salary to match the most expensive player in the world. Cos no matter what - that is what he worth in the world today. (but that is another debate haha)

Best case scenario: you acknowledge he is Default Captain of India, he is one of the best batsmen in the world, and also tweak his talent + salary

It tends to be that the overseas players are away for the first four weeks in the 'overseas league'.

Did you check whether he was selected in the Australian squad? If he was, then that would explain why he was away for the whole season. I guess it would be hard to check if he didn't play a game, but it is a possibility.
