  • Player Retirements

Thought it might be good to get your feedback on who is retiring for the 2011 database. Then we can use the thread as a good reference tool.

All players from 2010 who had retired from a format(s) will still be in that format, so unless we got some wrong this will be for players who will have retired for 1 April 2011.

I'm doing a lot of this off the top of my head, so don't shout if I'm forgetting someone obvious!

    Hope these categories are self-explanatory.

    Full Retirement
    Shoaib Akhtar
    John Davison
    Neil Killeen

    James Hockley
    Andrew Flintoff

    Graeme Smith
    Andrew Strauss

    IT20 retirement

    Australian FC retirement
    Damien Wright

    First Class retirement
    Lee Carseldine
    Muttiah Muralitharan

    Domestic One Day retirement
    Shaun Tait
    Lee Carseldine

    Domestic T20 retirement
    Michael Clarke
    Corey Collymore

Has come out of retirement, format in brackets
    Younis Khan (T20)
    Mo Yousuf (All)

We may of course get more after the World Cup, but that's not too much of an issue.

Please make it clear which category they need to be retired from.

    Thanks!

Michael Clarke has retired from t20 cricket.
McGrath has retired from t20 cricket.
Ian Harvey retired a while ago, but was still playing t20 cricket in ICC 2010.
Andrew Flintoff has retired from all cricket.

Will the banned Pakistanis be out of the game completely or will there be some kind of delayed comeback after 5 years? If that's too hard to implement you could do what you did with Flintoff, but just make it a 5 year injury. I'm not overly worried about it, I'm just wondering what you're doing in this situation.

NZ players who were in the 2010 database that have since retired (as far as I know):

          Matthew Bell (all formats)
          Shane Bond (all formats)
          Brendon Diamanti (all formats)

          Others who have possibly retired:
Chris Harris hasn't played a NZ domestic match for a year, but played domestic T20 in Zimbabwe in the past year.
Richard Jones hasn't played a NZ domestic match for a year

There will undoubtedly be other players who have retired, and are not listed, either through my oversight, or they were not well-known enough to merit an article anywhere. At any rate, you don't normally include players who haven't played cricket in the past year so they'll get found out that way.

I'm guessing Clarke won't be playing Domestic T20 either?

Banned Pakistani players will probably be completely removed. Though maybe we can do a special exception with a 5 year injury, as Aamir will still only be 23 at the time.

Thanks for feedback so far guys.

I'm pretty sure Clarke is retired from domestic t20 cricket too. Though the way stuff is structured he wouldn't have enough time to play domestic t20 anyway.

That makes sense. I can't see Asif playing test cricket again, and probably not Butt either. Aamir however could very well come back into the fold.
By then though you'd probably have a settled side of settled bowlers and probably wouldn't need Aamir anyway.

One thing I'm wondering is when Mark Ramprakash is going to retire. The way he's going he could play until he's 50.

On the Pakistani trio. Asif and Butt should be just forgotten about, I don't think many will mind if they're just removed from the game. Mohammad Amir tho should be kept in the game definitely. As Sureshot says he'll only be 23/24 when he returns from his ban (5yr injury, ouch). He is a serious talent (youngest bowler to take 50 test wickets) and I would hope that in the game upon his return from that injury shocker that he his still rated very highly.
