  • Yorkshire and New Zealand Story

The Yorkshire and New Zealand cricket boards have decided to appoint Kiran as their manager. Kiran has high credentials after playing 5 seasons with Kings XI Punjab on Normal Skill Level winning 3 titles. Now turning to easy mode for the first time Kiran, new to the English system is going to take over Yorkshire and the struggling Black-Caps. How will he go?

He has added 3 players to the Yorkshire squad signing Kaushal Lokuarachchi as the reserve player, Hamilton Masakadza as a 20 over specialist and Timothey Allison as part of the main squad on a 2 year contract.

      Yorkshire vs Kent

My first County Championship Match was against Kent. Kent won the toss and batted first and thanks to 90's from Sam Northeast and Geraint Jones and a 44 run last wicket partnership between Mark Davies and Charlie Shreck Kent managed 341.

In reply Phil Jaques and Andrew Gale put on 85 for the first wicket but both fell in quick succession. Ballance went in and out but Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root put on 128 together and Bairstow got 121 before he was run out. Then tragedy struck as Joe Root on 96 had to retire hurt after being hit by a bouncer. Then Adil Rashid and Kaushal L. (I won't type his name) put on 205 for the 8th wicket with the latter scoring a magnificent 129no. After scoring a mammoth 727. Yorkshire bowled and had Kent in trouble at 79-5 but they only managed 1 more wicket as Kent held on for a draw.

Batting Award: Kaushal, amazing innings for a no9 although Root, Rashid and Bairstow could have easily got it.

        Yorkshire vs Leeds UCCE

I don't feel I need to spend much time on this so,

I pretty much rested my first choice players and played some fringe players.

Sayers and Gale batted well and Kaushal and Ashraf bowled well

        Batting Award: Joe Sayers

        Bowling Award: Kaushal L.

          Yorkshire vs Essex

Only one change from the Kent match with Tim Allison coming in for the injured Joe Root. Yorkshire batted first and only managed 241. One positive from that innings was the innings of Allison who played a very mature innings. Essex then managed 326 with Sidebottom nabbing 3 wickets. An awesome 147 from Gary Ballance propelled Yorkshire to 376 before Essex were bowled out for 224 with Sidebottom getting another 4. That's 15 wickets in 2 matches!!

Batting Award: Gary Ballance, awesome innings, exactly what I expect from my top players

Bowling Award: Ryan Sidebottom, 15 wickets in 2 matches. What can I say??

            Yorkshire vs Kent

Yorkshire played Kent for the 2nd time this season and batted first they only managed 239 with Charlie Shreck grabbing 5. In reply Mark Powell made a magnificent hundred and Kaushal and Tim Bresnan took 4 each. Kent eventually got 264. Then Yorkshire managed 249 with Ballance and Gale both getting 70 and Charlie Shreck getting 10 in the match by getting another 5. In the chase Kent folded for only 182 giving Yorkshire a 42 run win. Kaushal got 7 wickets.

Batting Award: Tim Allison, calm, mature innings under pressure

Bowling Award: Kaushal, his bowling and his name are both phenomenal!!

              Leics vs Hampshire

Meanwhile in an other match there was a tie. Leics vs Hampshire was the match. Joshua Cobb was the only guy who stood out. This was a county match so the was very rare.

                  Yorkshire vs Leics

Yorkshire played Leics in a thriller. 3 changes as Joe Root comes in for Gale, Mitchell Starc back from international duty replaces Kaushal who starred for me and Bresnan is called up to England so Moin Ashraf replaces him. Leics batted first and made a mammoth 426. In reply Yorkshire made a poor 160 and were asked to follow on. Thanks to Adil Rashid and Jonny Bairstow they managed 394 and Leics just got over the line with no10 Robbie Joseph and no11 Mathew Hoggard hitting the winning runs. EXPECT CHANGES!!!

Batting Award: Jonny Bairstow although I wasn't too impressed

Bowling Award: Adil Rashid but he is more of a batsman. I need more from Mr. Rafiq!

                      Yorkshire vs Kent

What is going on?? Another loss. I gave the team one more chance but they failed me after Rob Key smashed 133 of 100 balls. He took special liking to Azeem Rafiq's bowling. Then Yorkshire batted dismally in reply. I am not happy

                      I won't even do awards!

                        Yorkshire vs Gloucs

This is getting silly now. And the only person I can blame it on is the team. I can't point the finger at anyone!!!!!! I just lost to last placed Gloucs!

I replaced Rafiq with Gale going in with 3 bowlers and Rashid. Gloucs batted first and made 279. Sidebottom got 6. In reply Yorkshire got only 221. Gloucs batted again and got 232 Rashid got 4 and Sidebottom got 3. Then we 268 falling 22 runs short.

Batting Award: The man in the moon.

Bowling Award: Ryan Sidebottom, the only bright spot with 31 wickets already this season.

                            Yorkshire vs Hampshire

Another loss! Now I am really getting fed up!

Yorkshire batted first and a magnificent hundred from Philip Jaques led us to 259. Then Hampshire got 261 with Starc getting 5 and Ashraf getting 4. Then in the 2nd innings we managed 255 with Bairstow among the runs. But Hampshire knocked off the runs with 5 wickets in hand.

Batting Award: Phil Jaques, good innings

Bowling Award: Mitchell Starc, 7 wickets out of 15, speaks for itself
