  • Customising Tours On ICC

    Hey,

I've had an idea and wanted to share it with you guys to get a sense of whether you thought it would be a good idea.

Wouldn't it be great if you could customise tours on ICC?

A big part of real cricket management now is sorting out how many tests, ODIs and T20s get played and I think it would be wonderful if, for example - you had set dates within which to tour a certain country, a default tour was set up, but you had the ability to edit the tour. So do you drop a test in favour of two T20 internationals or is the world cup coming up and do you want an extra ODI? Do you feel your team need an extra warm up match?

Those simple additions would make the game really exciting - particularly as a Bangladesh fan - the two test, three ODI format becomes repetetive customisations would literally be amazing.

    What do you guys think?

I would enjoy this for sure. Being able to customise "friendly" A team games (which would count as first class) would be amazing too. The international game is rather limited at the moment I think, especially on the player development side.

I suppose from my point of view, ICC has always mimicked the Future Tours Programme that the International Cricket Council develop, and it's always been consistent from version to version.

And I guess in today's world, there are so many international tours going on, that few tours actually have a warm up game anymore, they tend to get straight into it. Having said that, it is up to the respective boards to organise said warm-up games so there may be some scope down the track to implement this.

Personally I can't see the cricket world today actually implementing more warm-up games prior to a tour in the future, if anything I think they will reduce more and more as more tours are organised and begin to overlap other tours.
Not to mention not wanting to give away any advantage to the opposition!!

Another issue I guess is if we start customising international tours in ICC, it will start affecting other components of the game (world rankings, player rankings, skewed stats, etc.), which begins to eliminate the reality component that makes this game so awesome.

Again, this is just my opinion.

There is going to be a massive breaking point at some time in the next few years with regards to the schedule. We're already seeing it, the amount of T20 specialists shows this.

Customisation is an area we want to expand in to, but other areas have a higher priority in the next couple of years.

Regardless, it's a pretty unrealistic situation if, say, I get Bangladesh to the number 1 spot in tests and they continue to play two match test series. Surely after a given period, say 5 or 6 years into career, the schedule should change depending on who's in the bottom two and this could be repeated every given time period.

There is an editor created by someone at planetcricket, which allows you to edit tours. But yes in-game feature to edit those would make it a lot more easier.

Yes, I wrote the editor and it works OK. I am improving it for ICC 2013 so you can add and remove matches.
